New-Clear
A critical designed radiation monitoring surfboard
Project Description
To use Critical design to raise awareness of a personal issue. I chose to design a surfboard to help facilitate and promote worldwide ocean quality testing and awareness. There is a growing need to continue the study of the effects of radiation on local environments. The move towards developing new technology and monitoring systems for testing radiation levels can help us avoid exposure in the future.
Inspiration
Inspired by the after-effects of the 2011 earthquake in Japan. The Daiichi nuclear reactor in Fukushima continues to leech harmful radioactive chemicals into the ocean. This leak has spread throughout the Pacific Ocean. The far-reaching effects of this nuclear disaster can be seen in marine life from Japan to the United States and Canada. In 2015, radiation was detected on the coast of British Columbia.
